Revitalize Your School.

With a Zen Den

Sensory rooms aren’t necessarily new concepts, but having structure, training, and knowing the why behind use of these rooms is key. Call it a Zen Den, or something else based off of your school mascot that incorporates brain based science and social emotional lessons for all students on your campus.

A Place & Practice to Regulate, Restore, Rejuvenate.

Stress and trauma take a toll. After two exhausting years of “putting out fires”, Dr. Barta and her then superintendent decided something needed to be different. Kids, and adults, have no shortage of stress inducing experiences, and that shows up on campus. Always. The Zen Den was created from concepts from the Neurosequential Model in Education and has since been implemented, revised, and been perfected to match a variety of school-based needs. The Zen Den may have many individual "pieces" or steps that are familiar to you. Great! Less mental work. We'll work with you for a few additions, tweaks, and revisions to increase resilience and decrease problem behaviors exhibited by students.

This process is intended to help you learn more about the what and why of what makes some of our responses so effective for some, and so painfully challenging with others.

This approach is used in the Zen Den, and classrooms. You will learn how to recognize a student's behavior as symptoms of brain "states". Using a check-in process with oximeters and feelings charts, you will learn how to measure a student's functioning in real time, create change quickly, and get students back to learning.

What is It?

"Our fundamental job is to change the brain."

— Steve Graner, Neurosequential Network.

Data Based.

  • Schools who have implemented Zen Den practices significantly reduced time out of class, disciplinary action, and increased social emotional functioning in other measurable ways. Students will learn to identify and label their own emotions, regulate themselves, and problem-solve with accountability (restorative justice).

We’ll teach you how to take the data you’ll want. Show staff, families, and other stakeholders the effectiveness of new practice, quickly.

Reduce time out of class and time dedicated to administrative response.
